Therapeutic Recreation

Our therapeutic recreation session puts focus on the positive effects of low impact exercise combined with a friendly, like minded social environment to help support the well being of cancer survivors. Therapeutic recreation is a process utilizing activity based interventions to address the needs of individuals with illness giving those the option to go out for a social paddle on a stand up paddle board or kayak.

The sessions are run every Wednesday morning (excluding school holidays/and weather dependent) at 7:30am for approximately one hour, from Boardwalk Boats. This complimentary session is available to any cancer survivor (post-treatment) as a local community service. Participants must be given pre approval from their medical treating doctor.

We have people from diverse backgrounds who come down to engage with each others or just simply go on the water for recreation. Most have never been on a stand up paddle board or kayak before. We do offer instruction prior to start, if required. Some have been coming down for a few years and are happy to help you overcome the initial "jitters".  One of the participants acts as a guide joining you on each session.   Buoyancy vests are available on request.

Any questions about the sessions please feel free to contact us for information or regarding attendance.
