How old you need to be to drive a boat?

Planning on being a future captain?

You will need an adult (18 years or older) on the boat at all times. The adult will also have to sign a liability waiver taking responsibility for those on board including the vessel. Once this is completed anyone 16 years or older can legally drive the boat.

Often little ones can get great photos and if you want to have a child sitting on you lap whilst motoring along this is certainly welcome. We would always recommend being the responsible skipper that you can take control of the boat if needed in an emergency.

It is worth noting that recreational law and hire and drive law varies. Additionally laws may have changed since the time of writing.
