07 Jul The Noosa Biosphere Reserve
The Noosa Biosphere Reserve is an internationally protected area covering the Noosa Shire. It was the first Biosphere Reserve for Queensland and was established in 2007.
What is a Biosphere?
Biosphere Reserves are areas of terrestrial, marine and coastal ecosystems that are managed with the aim of balancing biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources. The planning and management of Biosphere Reserves relies on the participation of the local community and interested stakeholders. The World Network of Biosphere Reserves includes 714 Biosphere Reserves in 129 countries.
What does this mean for Noosa?
This shows a desire to maintain a relationship with the environment with a balanced approach to development and conservation. It also means that Noosa has some diverse and rural locations to explore whilst still being within the heart of the township.
